DIY Home Decor with Mason Jars!

These glass bottles that were used to preserve food in the kitchen now make a great home décor piece, a cute gift to give to a friend or neighbour.

1. Citronella Candles

Enjoy a leisurely evening this summer outdoors with your family and friends. These Mason jar candles provide a great ambiance and provide a unique benefit of driving away mosquitoes. Citronella oil is a plant-based insect repellent that is a must for spending time outside.

What you need: Mason jar with lid and ring

Citronella torch fuel/oil

1/8″ lamp wicks

Nail punch, screwdriver


Steps: Punch a hole from the bottom of the lid in the centre for easy insertion of the candle wick.

Fill the jar with Citronella Torch fuel/Oil

Screw on the lid and pull the wick out

And you’re ready for a perfect evening. The oils change colour when exposed to sunlight! These pretty and efficient candles create a warm and comfortable environment.


2. Tissue Holder

Need your tissue box to fit in with your room décor? Make a cute Mason jar tissue holder that looks great and can be changed to suit your room’s needs.

What you need: Mason jar with lid

Scissors, Knife and Glue Stick

Decorative/fancy scrapbook paper

Rust prevention rust-oleum Spray

Paint brush and Acrylic paint

Steps : Paint the Mason jar with craft/acrylic paint.

Spray paint the ring part of the lid

Cut out a circle from the lid as well as a new lid insert from the scrapbook paper 

Put the tissues inside the jar

Glue the scrapbook paper lid cutouts together and make a huge X on them

Put it all together.

Add any stick-on craft embellishments you like.


 3. Glow in the Dark

What you need : Mason jars

Glow in the dark paint/glow sticks


Tap water

Steps : Mix the paint with your brush until the glowing particles have dissolved evenly.  If you are using glow sticks, cut into the sticks and splash the fluid all over the jars.

Make tiny dots in the inside of the jar. The more dots you make, the prettier the jar     will look. Dot on one colour first, then the next, etc.

Leave to dry.

You’re done. In the daytime your jar won’t look that fancy but at night your room will look beautiful and the jar will give the perfect light for some spectacular photography!
